Let It Go

Lot never asked God to deliver him and his family. His uncle did. God answered Abraham’s prayers and delivered them, but not everyone wanted to be delivered. When Lot told his sons-in-law to get out because God was going to destroy the city, they didn’t leave because they didn’t believe. Even when the angels told Lot to leave, he lingered. He hesitated. The angels had to take him, his wife and two daughters by the hand and bring them out (Gen 19:16).

Many were destroyed that day, but God spared Lot’s wife. We don’t even know her name, but she was important enough to God for Him to save her – yet she wasn’t grateful for what He had done. Just because people leave, doesn’t mean that they want to cleave – to God. Sometimes people just want to get out of a mess. They don’t want God right now. They just want what He can do for them right now.

The angels told them to run for their lives, don’t look back, don’t stop in the valley and run to the mountains or they would be destroyed (Gen 19:17). The scriptures didn’t tell us that she went back. All she did was look back, but to look back may cause you to go back. There were many in the bible that were delivered from something so we know that God can deliver you, but can you stay delivered? Whatever you had to do to get out, you have to do to stay out. God delivered Lot’s wife just as He promised Abraham, but her disobedience kept her from staying delivered.

When she looked back, she became a pillar of salt. She could no longer move. You must make up in your mind to serve God and Him only. If you don’t, you will become like one who straddles the fence. You’re not sure what you want and you’re not sure who you want. When you’re indecisive, you are unable to move into your calling, into your future, and into what God has called you to be.

Why are you always looking at your past? Why are you always trying to remember what you once had? Why are you always thinking about what they did to you? God wants you to move forward, but you can’t go until you let it go. The thing that keeps you looking back is the very thing that is keeping you from reaching for those things which are ahead. When God delivers you, He is not delivering you to go back. He is delivering you to go forth. What’s ahead of you is better than what is behind you. Lot’s wife was looking at something that was over, destroyed and done away with. God wasn’t going to repair it neither was He going to resurrect it. God loves His people too much and before He allows it to destroy you, He will destroy it.

Your life is hidden with Christ in God. The reason why you can’t move on is because you’re still trying to live a life that has passed. It is behind you. Forget those things that are behind. You would be amazed at how many people are mad with God right now because He didn’t give them something or He didn’t do something that they wanted Him to do.  Do you want Him or do you want what He can give you? When Nebuchadnezzar threatened to throw Daniel and his friends in the fiery furnace because they wouldn’t worship the image He made, he asked them if their God would deliver them out of his hands. Daniel said, ‘If our God is able to deliver us, He will deliver us out of your hand, BUT if not, let it be known to you, O King, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image you have set up’. In other words, God is able to do anything, but even if He doesn’t do this one thing, He is still God. This doesn’t change who He is. I will still love Him. I will still obey Him. I will still trust Him.

God spared you. He brought you out of some things. Yes, some of those things may have hurt you, but thank God it didn’t destroy you. Be grateful for what the Lord allowed and be grateful for what He didn’t allow. What I love about Lot was that he was grateful. He knew that the Lord had been merciful to him (Gen 19:16). I found grace in your sight and you have magnified your mercy, which you have showed unto me in saving my life  (Gen 19:19). I know you thought it was bad, but it could have been worse. God allowed you to live so that you may testify of what He has done in your life. One of the reasons why some people can’t talk about certain things from the pulpit is because they are not free from it (yet), but God wants you to talk from a place of freedom so that those who come to hear will be healed.

Not everything we went through was the devil’s fault or people’s fault.  Some of it was our fault, but no matter what they caused or what we caused, God can cause all things to work together for good – but let it go. Let the pain go, let the hurt go, let that relationship go and let God heal you.
