I know there are some things we wish God would just hurry up and do, but you don’t want God to give you the right thing at the wrong time. God promised the Israelites a land flowing with milk and honey and He promised He would drive out the nations that occupied their land, but He told them it wouldn’t happen in a year (Exodus 23:29). Just because things aren’t happening as quickly as you would like, that doesn’t mean that it won’t happen. It will happen, but it will happen little by little.
Even though God told the Israelites that he would drive out their enemies, they still had to fight. It’s like a woman who has put on 50 pounds. She didn’t put those pounds on in one day, but some women would like to lose the weight in one day. When she gets tired of the weight and she recognizes what happened as a result of becoming overweight, she can now do what it takes to lose the weight. When she makes up her mind that she wants to be set free from the weight she shouldn’t have been carrying, it will be a fight because her flesh (body) doesn’t want to lose weight. There are certain foods that she has to cut back on and there are habits that she has to break, but once those 50 pounds are off, she will appreciate the fight and everything she did to lose the weight, she will have to do to maintain her weight or the weight will come back.
It’s the same with us. Some of us (including me) are carrying too much weight. God was talking about what was inhabiting their land, but I’m talking about what is inhabiting our bodies. There are things that are in us that shouldn’t be. God told me that before He gives me what He has promised me, I must first be set free from everything that will keep me from obtaining and enjoying the promise. I thought, What about some of these Christians who do things they shouldn’t do yet they have this and they have that? The Lord immediately said, ‘How do you know that I gave it to them? How do you know that it was from Me? Then He reminded me of when Satan took Jesus on a high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and said, ‘All these things will I give you if you will fall down and worship me’. God owns everything, but don’t be deceived. Satan has things, too.
There are things that entered me through generational curses, fornication, adultery, pornography, etc. and if these things are not cast out of me, I may get what God has promised, but I may not keep it. For example, I may get married, but be unable to stay married because of what’s in me. What happened to me didn’t happen overnight. It happened gradually through some type of weakness such as loneliness and the devil entered through conversation, texting, watching certain TV programs and hanging around the wrong people. Everything that comes from the devil comes to kill, steal and destroy and if you don’t destroy your enemies, they will eventually destroy you.
When God delivered the Israelites out of Egypt, that was just the beginning of the process. They were not totally delivered. Deliverance is a process and the process takes time. I’m sure the Israelites got angry sometimes and wondered, Did God lie to us? If the land is really ours, why don’t we have it yet? Let me tell you this. God is opening doors for you, but to fully enjoy what’s behind those doors, you must first close all doors to the devil. There is no need to pray for a husband if you refuse to let go of all the other husbands you’ve had. When Jesus told the woman at the well to go get her husband, she said, ‘I don’t have a husband’. Jesus said, ‘You’re right. You have had five husbands and the one you’re with now is not your husband’. The moment you committed fornication or adultery, you became one with that person. I know there wasn’t a wedding ceremony or a cake or an exchange of wedding vows and rings, but that person became your husband (or wife) and even though that person may live thousands of miles away from you, pieces of their soul (mind, will and emotions) are still in you. It will take fasting, praying, breaking and severing ungodly soul ties, declaring a divorce note against every spiritual husband, throwing away love letters, gifts, and pictures, deleting phone numbers out of your cell phone and whatever else the Holy Spirit tells you to do. No one said it would be easy, but how bad do you want to be free? How bad do you want to be blessed and to be a blessing?
Do you want what God has promised you? Then, lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily besets you. If God does everything for us, we won’t appreciate it as much and just as quick as He brings us out of some things, we would go right back into them, but if you have to fight to get out of you what shouldn’t have been in you, you won’t be so quick to let them back in again.
Not everyone has problems in the area of sexual perversion, but God is able to set you free from anything that has held you bound for years. God is going to deliver His people this year. Do not be concerned about how long it’s taking and why it hasn’t happened yet. Just believe that you will be totally free, delivered and restored. Deliverance is a good work and He who began this good work in you is going to complete it. Don’t hate the process because the process is only preparing you for the promise. When you are delivered, you will not go out empty. Everything that was stolen or held back while you were in bondage will be released when you are released and set free.
Be encouraged. What God has promised you is ready for you. He is just making you ready for it. It will happen…little by little, but make up in your mind to lose the weight.
