The Israelites were in slavery for 400 years. They couldn’t do what they wanted to do. They were told what to do and when they didn’t obey, they were beaten and punished. This is what happens when sin becomes your master. Jesus said, ‘Everyone who sins is a slave to sin’ (John 8:34). Whatever you obey is what you will become a slave to. Sin doesn’t reward you when you obey it. It punishes you by beating you over the head with guilt, shame and condemnation.
But getting back to the Israelites…
They were tired of their condition and it was for this reason that they cried unto the Lord to save them. God came to their rescue and saved them, but it was a fight. Pharaoh didn’t want to let the Israelites go because he felt that they belonged to him, but he didn’t love them. He didn’t even want them. He just didn’t want God to have them.
Even though Pharaoh died years ago, the spirit of Pharaoh is still alive. That spirit will eventually let you go because it will obey the word of the Lord, but its job is to only let you go but so far. He doesn’t have a problem with you going to the Red Sea. He just doesn’t want you to cross over it. When you cross over, you come into the light. Where you were once blind, you will now see. You discover who you are. If you don’t know who you are and what God has given you, you will just take anything the devil gives you. When you cross over, that means you can help someone else cross over, but the devil doesn’t want that because he thinks he can still use you for his purpose. He still thinks that your body is his house (Matthew 12:44).
Let me show you how the devil works. Adam didn’t enter Eve until Genesis 4, but it was the serpent’s job to enter her before Adam did (through thoughts and conversation). When Eve slept with Adam, what was in her now entered him. Eve conceived and it transferred to their children and their children’s children and so forth and so on. Many of us don’t know what it’s like to inherit a house or money, but we know what it’s like to inherit generational curses. If you look closely at your family tree, you may discover there is incest, promiscuity, adultery, murder, suicide, drug/alcohol addiction, depression, etc., in your family. In fact, you may be dealing with the same things your parents dealt with.
There are certain things I deal with as a result of my parents’ disobedience, but then there are things I’m dealing with now because of MY disobedience. The devil can only enter you and/or your family through a door. If the devil enters any other way, he is a thief and a robber. Because I am under the blood of Jesus, he can’t trespass. He can only pass by, but when I disobey God, I willfully open a door, which now gives him legal access to my mind, body, soul, my life – and my children.
We can quote ‘I’m blessed in the city and in the field. I’m the head, not the tail. I’m above and not beneath’ all day long, but those blessings are based on conditions. It shall come to pass IF you shall hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord your God (Deuteronomy 28:1). We have victory over the devil by the blood of the Lamb and the word of my testimony. In other words, our victory is not in what we say, but in how we live. Our victory over Satan is in our obedience to God. There are no short cuts and there are no loopholes. Jesus learned to obey the Father through the things He suffered and we have to learn to be obedient also.
It doesn’t matter how many years Pharaoh has been king in your family and in your life because the King of kings came to set you free. Just like the children of Israel, your cry has gone up to God. He heard you and He is going to turn again your captivity. He is going to restore what you lost through ignorance, sin and disobedience. You planted tears, but your tears are about to produce joy (Psalm 126:5).
But you must obey God. Learn from the birds. When a bird sees a trap being set, it stays away (Proverbs 1:17). Some conversations are just traps. Stay away. The enemies that God delivers you from will try to pursue you (Exodus 14:9), but don’t be afraid. The Lord shall fight for you. Do what God tells you to do and the enemies you see today, you will see no more. God has made a way of escape from your temptation and you will escape what your enemies will drown in.
If you got into the situation you’re in through disobedience, the good news is you can get out of it through obedience.
God will do IF you will do.
