Has God ever told you what He was going to do for you or who you were going to be, but you looked at your current situation and wondered how it was going to happen? That was how Mary felt when the angel came to her and told her that she was going to have a child. Mary asked, ‘How can this be? How is this possible? How is this going to happen? I’m a virgin. I’m not married’.
For years, I’ve been trying to do this and trying to do that, wondering how things are going to happen and when they are going to happen and the Lord gave me the same answer that the angel gave Mary. It’s going to take the Holy Ghost. What God said will happen, but it will not happen by your power or might. It will happen by His Spirit. You are frustrated because you are trying to figure things out and work things out without God’s Spirit. The Holy Spirit is not an ‘it’. He is not a something. He is not what jumps on you to make you shout. He is a Person and we need Him. If we didn’t need Him, then Jesus would have never prayed to the Father to give Him to us (John 14:16).
The Spirit reveals what has been given to us from God (1 Corinthians 2:12).
(If you want to know the truth), He will guide you into all truth (John 16:13).
The Spirit enables us to obey the truth (1 Peter 1:22).
Sometimes we look at our situation and tell God what we can’t do because of what we don’t have. Lord, I don’t have a spouse to help me. Lord, I don’t have money to start a business. Lord, I’ve tried to break this habit. Mary didn’t have a husband, but she did have a ‘yes’. She didn’t understand everything the angel told her, but she came in agreement with what God said and told him ‘Let it be’.
God already knows what you can’t do. All He needs is a willing vessel – a body – so that He can do it through you. He knows you’re scared. He knows you’re afraid of change. God’s plan is not to harm you. He wants to give you hope and a good future. He wants His promises to come to pass in your life, but you have to trust Him. If Jesus could heal the woman with the blood issue, He can heal your trust issues.
God loves you so much that He gave His only Son to receive many sons and daughters. When Jesus came, He came for YOU. You don’t belong to the devil. You belong to God. Don’t believe the lie that God doesn’t care. He is not sleeping. You are not overlooked. He is watching over you and He is watching over His word concerning you to perform it.
Last week, I wrote about the demon possessed man. I believe that just as God made promises to us, He made promises to this man, but because of his condition he couldn’t receive those promises. He needed to be set free first. Why would God give him a wife when what was in him would only destroy the marriage? Why give him a house if he couldn’t keep it? The demons that were in this man only desired to steal, kill and destroy everything including him. They wanted him to be sick, depressed, broke, lonely and without hope and they want us to be in the same condition. The good news is when the thief came, Jesus also came to give you life in abundance (John 10:10).
There is a reason why you can’t keep a job, keep a spouse or own a home. It’s frustrating when you know you can be more and that you can have more, but nothing has changed. It’s the same thing year after year. You know God has promised you many things, but you can’t understand why you don’t have them yet. There were people who tried to help the man possessed with devils, but they were trying to help him according to their knowledge. To set this man free, they needed revelation from God.
Make this year the year that you seek the Lord with all your heart. You have many questions and God wants to give you answers. He reveals the deep and secret things – things that are hidden from your natural eyes. Because He is Light, He knows what lies in darkness, but in order to discover the secret things, you have to abide in the secret place (prayer). There are things that you need to know and the Holy Spirit wants to reveal them to you.
Do what you have to do. If you are really sick and tired of being sick and tired, you will do something this year. Turn off the TV. (Some of you are saying right now, ‘Not the TV, Jesus’). You may have to fast more, pray more and read the bible more this year than you did last year. You may have to give up some things and maybe some people. I’m not telling you it is going to be easy. Your flesh and the devil are going to be angry and they are going to fight against what you’re doing, but He who is in you is greater than them both.
Don’t work God around your schedule, but work your schedule around God. He is very important and you are going to need Him. If you call Him, He will answer you and show you great and mighty things that you don’t know (Jeremiah 3:33).
Seek the Lord.
