Stay and Obey

Posted on

Have you ever thought that maybe Ruth wanted to return to her mother’s house? I’m sure Ruth wanted to be married again and maybe have children one day.

Ruth and Orpah were presented with the same choice: to leave or to stay. When Ruth made the decision to stay, she didn’t know she would later meet Boaz. She didn’t know that she would become a part of the lineage of Jesus. She didn’t understand what God was doing or why, but she knew it was the will of God to stay. Orpah, on the other hand, could only see the ‘right now’. Nothing was happening and she probably thought nothing would ever change. When Naomi told them what she couldn’t give them, Orpah left. Orpah just thought of herself, but Ruth wasn’t selfish. She didn’t stay with Naomi to get something, but to give something.

Ruth trusted in the Lord with all her heart, but Orpah leaned to her own understanding.

If I could have planned my life, I would have planned it differently, but that would mean planning my life without God and I can’t live this life without the One who gives life. When you are where God wants you to be, He is responsible for taking care of you, but when you place yourself where you shouldn’t be, you now become responsible for taking care of yourself.

To obtain the promises of God, you must do what He tells you to do.  What people fail to understand is that the will of God is about God. It is about what He wants and not about what we want. What God is about to do in your life is not for you only, but for generations to come. God wants to do something in your life that will last and that can be passed on from generation to generation.

What you sow today, others will reap tomorrow.

If you are in a place that you know God has placed you, but you despise it, it’s because you are only thinking of yourself right now. What you are going through now is going to help someone else later. God has a plan and we should be grateful that He made us to be a part of His plan.

You never read in scripture where Ruth prayed for a husband or for wealth. I’m sure she had desires, but the moment she made God her Desire, He gave her the desires of her heart.

If you’re going to leave anything, leave your old ways and cleave to God’s ways.

Stay and obey.
